2008 GENERAL RULES
Rule Book Disclaimer
The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the conditions of all events, and be participating in these events shall, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the racing sport. I-37 Raceway will assume no responsibilities for injuries, loss of life or money. All I-37 Raceway participants agree to waive the right to sue I-37 Raceway owners, managers, or officials for injuries, death, or damage to property due to decisions made by I-37 Raceway.
If the Rules do not say it, don’t do it.
Any point not covered herein shall be decided by the officials.
Registration
- All cars/drivers must be registered with I-37 Raceway before they may enter the track.
- All drivers must be at least 18 years old.
- 16 – 18 years old must have a notarized consent form from parent or legal guardian.
- Any driver younger than 16 years old must talk with the I-37 Raceway Management.
Pit Entrance
- Everyone entering the pit area must sign an insurance release form. All participants entering the pit area must purchase a pit pass. The pit area wrist band must be worn at all times. If you fail to sign the release form, then you are not covered be the track insurance.
- Pit entrance cost will be $25.00 for everyone (Pit crews, spectators, etc.)
Ammended 4/5/08 - Driver Entry fee will be $40 - Anyone entering the pits under the age of 18 must have a minors release on file. The minor release must be signed be a parent or legal guardian. Children 12 and under must be accompanied be an adult at all times.
- Track officials reserve the right to refuse entrance to any car, driver, or any other person to the pit area, infield, or grandstand area.
Insurance
I-37 Raceway carries insurance for the race track, car owner, drivers, sponsor, spectators, and employees. Insurance is in force only if the participant was signed in at the pit gate on the day of the incident or the injury will not be covered by the insurance policy.
Race Track Operation
- All drivers are required to attend all drivers meetings. Failure to do so will result in the driver starting in the back in his/her heat race.
- Speed limits in the pit area, entrance ramp, exit ramp, and parade road is walking speed.
- All drivers are responsible for their actions. Please be aware of spectators and crewmen while driving through the pit area. Be especially aware and watch for children.
- Spectators, pit crew members, drivers and owners are not allowed on the track or in the infield. Do not go onto the race track without being told to do so by a track official.
- It is the driver’s responsibility to know the racing schedule and their proper place in the lineup. Participating cars must be in the staging lane before the end of the prior race to theirs. No race will be delayed for an unstaged car.
- No radios or cell phones to be used by a driver during a race. Result will be disqualification.
- Any car taking the green flag in a race will be counted as a participant in that race. If they fail to complete a lap, they will still receive last place points and money. If a driver takes the green flag, they will not be allowed to change race cars if they wreck on the first lap.
- During the race or hot lapping, any car that cannot maintain a safe speed will be black flagged.
- Any driver who is the judgment of the officials, engages in rough driving, deliberately running into, blocking, or swerving in front of another car, you may be black flagged.
- Any car causing a caution will restart at the rear of the field. If it cannot be determined which car caused the caution in a multi-car accident, then all cars involved will go to the rear. Restarts will go back to the last completed green flag lap. A completed green flag lap is defined as a lap where all cars on the lead lap have passed over the start/finish line.
- No driver may stop his/her car on the track to argue or discuss the race with the officials. Anyone going to another drivers pit area or car may face disciplinary action be officials.
- If a car goes to the pits then returns to the race they must start in the rear of the field. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
- Any car that is involved in (3) three wrecks in the same race will be black flagged. Any car involved in (2) two solo spins in the same race will be black flagged. Any car that does not obey the black flag for (3) consecutive laps will be disqualified for the entire night.
- All complaints must be taken up with the Track Manager. Any driver, crew member, or owner complaining to the track officials may be disqualified for the night.
- The driver shall be the sole spokesperson for his/her car owner and pit crew in any and all matters pertaining to the race and the driver only shall take part in any arbitration with the track officials. If at any time a drivers pit crew, owner or immediate family causes a disturbance, argues, or abuses a track official, that driver may be black flagged or disqualified for the remainder of the race. Each driver is responsible for the conduct of his crew, owner, and immediate family.
- If a driver finishes in the top 5 of a featured event, then the driver must pull immediately to the Tech area. If a driver passes the Tech area and enters their pit area then this action will result in an immediate disqualification. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- The driver and one (1) pit crew member will allowed in the Tech area after the conclusion of the race and the car is in the Tech area. Any attempts by crew members to work on the car while in the Tech area or staging area may result in disqualification.
Race / Lineup Procedures
- A green/yellow light will be used to alert all drivers of a situation where caution is needed. Racing will continue under green/yellow.
- A red/yellow flag will be used to clear the track of any parts and/or cars due to an accident. All cars must reduce their speed to a slow pace and fall into position with no passing under a red/yellow.
- Any cars observed speeding during a red/yellow flag, especially near any pedestrians on the track, will be subject to disqualification.
- If a car drops out of the line up, the cars directly behind will move up without crisscrossing.
- Cars must remain in single file until passing the cone at turn 4. Jumping a restart will result in a penalty. No passing or pushing will be allowed.
- Any car causing a red/yellow flag by deliberately stopping on the track to improve his/her position or to protest an officials call will be sent to the pits.
- Any car losing an identifiable part that causes a red/yellow will be sent to the rear of the field.
- Any competing vehicle, whose speed has been reduced to a point where it causes a danger, will be removed from the track at the discretion of track officials.
- The flagman has the authority to start any event whether all cars called to the track are ready or not. Any car that does not take its position when called to lineup will go to the rear of the field.
- The car is the pole position starts the race (heat and main).
- Under caution if you have a flat tire, drivers will have until the track is cleared and 1 to go is given the rest of the field. You will be put at the rear of the field.
- In the event of inclement weather and the race program is interrupted, the program will be considered complete if all heat races have been run. Rain checks will not be honored. All unfinished feature races will be rescheduled at the first convenient date. Line-ups for rescheduled features will remain as determined before the program was canceled.
- Lineups (exception – 1st race night) will be lined up by point average. Lowest point average to the front, highest point average to the rear. New drivers carrying no points start at the rear. Point Averages are figured from the IMCA point system. Average is figured by drivers track points total divided by the total number of times he/she has competed at the track. For example: a driver has a total of 90 pts and has competed in 2 races, his average would be 45.00.
- Pure, Street and Super stock drivers - If a driver is absent for one event night, upon his/her return shall be treated as a new driver and will start at the rear of the field.
- IMCA classes – If a driver is absent for two consecutive events (excluding rain-outs), upon his/her return shall be treated as a new driver and will start at the rear of the field.
- Any ruling not covered herein shall be decided by I-37 Raceway officials.
Flag Rules
Green Flag – Starts the race. The race will start off of turn 4 with the drop of the green flag. The driver/car in the pole position starts the race.
Yellow Flag – Caution. Slow down, close up the field, and hold your position.
Crossed Flags – One half of the race is completed.
White Flag – One lap to go, till finish.
Checkered Flag – End of race.
Red Flag – Stop. Stop the car in a safe manner so the cars behind you do not run into you.
Black Flag (rolled up) – This is a warning. This means you’re doing something wrong so stop it. You get a single (1) warning.
Black Flag – Pull into the infield immediately. There may be something wrong with your car or you have violated the rules. Failure to obey this flag will be disqualification for the night. We will stop scoring a driver once 3 black flags have been given to you.
Blue/Yellow Striped Flag – Hold you line. The leaders are coming up behind you to pass you.
Safety Rules
- When involved in an accident on the race track, stay buckled up until the officials/fire crew/EMS tells you it is OK to exit your car. EXCEPTION: If your car is on fire, exit car immediately.
- All drivers must wear an approved racing helmet and approved fire suit with shoes and neck collar while on the race track. No overalls will be allowed.
- A working fire extinguisher with a quick release bracket within easy reach of the driver is required in all classes. No duct tape, pins, zip ties or hose clamps will be permitted to secure fire extinguishers.
- A minimum 5 lb. working fire extinguisher (dry powder or equivalent) must be on your trailer during any and all racing events.
- Any car exhibiting a dangerous condition (flat tire, oil or fuel leak, loose body parts, etc) will be black flagged.
- All gas tanks and batteries must be secured with mounts, brackets or straps.
- Any car that is jacked up to be worked under, the car must be supported by jack stands.
- All glass and chrome must be removed. No mirrors or reflective devices allowed.
- Doors must be bolted or welded shut.
- All cars must have a safe firewall between the driver and the engine. Firewalls must be constructed so that in case of fire, flames can not enter the driver’s compartment from around, under, or over the firewall. Hoods must be flush with the firewall to prevent fire from entering the driver’s compartment.
- Nerf bars and bumpers can not have any open or sharp edges, corners, or ends. No car will be allowed to compete without a rear bumper.
- Any added weights must be bolted to the frame or roll cage and be painted white with your car # in black. Any car loosing weight during a race will be disqualified from that race.
- Any driver caught by track officials participating in a race event without an approved helmet properly strapped on and/or safety belts securely fastened will be disqualified for that event.
- Only race track officials and authorized persons are allowed on the race track or in the infield during competition. Drivers may seek a place of safety in the infield following disablement. We strongly prefer all drivers stay in their cars while in the infield. For Safety precautions.
- Auxiliary Pit Vehicles (golf carts, ATV, etc)(NO bikes of any kind) should be used for necessary transportation only. Joy riding in the pit area is prohibited. Vehicles may carry as many passengers as there are seats provided. No overloading of vehicles. Use caution at all times. Excessive speeds will not be tolerated. Any vehicle operated in an unsafe manner will be parked/and or loaded up for the remainder of the night. The driver/owner of the vehicle assumes full responsibility for any bodily injury or property damages related to the use of their vehicle.
Payout
All winning are payable to the driver only. No one else can receive winnings for the driver unless I-37 Raceway has a written authorization from the driver on his/her registration form. The person receiving any payment must sign for winnings received. Any driver not picking up his/her pay after the event can pick it up at the pit office the following week. After four (4) weeks, if you still haven’t collected your pay, we will mail it to you.
Driver / Car Change
- Any driver who changes cars will start at the back of the event for which that driver qualified. Drivers returning to their original car will start at the back of their scheduled event.
- Any driver change without notifying an I-37 Raceway official will result in disqualification of the driver and car, forfeiture of winnings in that event, and suspension for the remainder of the race night.
Miscellaneous
- Personal Belongings: All persons entering the pit area do so at their own risk. All personal belongings such as but not limited to tools, vehicles, racing equipment are not covered by I-37 Raceway Insurance. I-37 Raceway will not be responsible for the loss or damage to personal belongings.
- A car may not compete in two different classes on the same race night.
- All cars must help in packing the track. Races will begin whether the track is well packed or not.
Automatic Penalties
- Fighting / Physical Assault – Any participant starting a fight, or conducting him/herself in a manner detrimental to I-37 Raceway, will be fined and/or penalized by the management. The guilty party will be notified by the management of the pending fine and/or penalty before the next race event. A second offense will result in a heavier fine and/or penalty or suspension.
- Alcohol – There will be absolutely no alcoholic beverages or controlled substances allowed in the pit area before or during the racing program. The track officials reserve the right to search any and all vehicles entering the pit area. Any person in the pit area with alcohol on his/her breathe will be immediately removed from the pit area for the remainder of the race night. A second such offense will result in a permanent suspension from the pits. There will be no tolerance. Person injured while under the influence, forfeits all rights to any insurance claims.
- Rough Driving – Penalties including fines, suspensions and points to be at discretion of track officials. IMCA may impose penalties based on severity of incident.
- Any abuse of a track official by anyone is grounds for permanent suspension from the premises.
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct – First violation, $100 fine and/or suspension. Second violation, $250 and two week suspension. Third violation, one year suspension.
- Any driver intentionally using his/her vehicle in a malicious manner, $250 fine and/or suspension at discretion of track officials. Sport Mods and Mods also would deal with IMCA.

Protests
- Protests must be in writing an filed with track promoter within a reasonable time, at discretion of officials, after feature race is completed and must be specific in alleged violation t determine whether protest is allowed or rejected. No protest of any type will be allowed after payouts have been received. One item per protest per event only. Drivers may not protest more than one car per event, another driver finishing in a position behind them, and may not protest same driver more than once per calendar year.
- All protests will be handled at track level and must be accompanied with a $150 cash deposit. $50 of the deposit goes to the track and will not be refunded, regardless of the outcome of the protest. If item being protested is found legal, entire deposit will be forfeited. If found illegal, $100 deposit will be refunded to protester.
Point Structure
- Feature Race: Winner will receive 40 points, with each subsequent position worth one point less, with 24th position in feature worth 17 points. If more than 24 cars start feature, all positions from 24th back receive 17 points. If track runs a B feature, first non-transferring drivers receives 16 points and each subsequent position, back to sixth position, receives one less point per position. Sixth position and back in B feature receive 11 points.
- IMCA Drivers only - Should a driver qualify for the B or A Feature, and not be able to compete, they will be scored in last position and receive points accordingly.
- Pures, Streets, and Supers – You have to take the green flag in the feature race to receive points and/or money.
- If less than ten entries for any given night, for each car less than ten, one point fewer than normal is awarded for feature finish. For example: if nine cars entered, feature win would then be worth 39 pts, eight entries, win would be worth 38 pts, etc.
- Heat Race points are awarded to the Pure, Street and Super Stock Classes drivers only. Heat race winners will receive 10 points with each subsequent position worth one point less, 2nd place in heat will receive 9 pts and so on.
The I-37 Raceway officials reserve the right to alter the race program at any time for the improvement of the quality and/or convenience of the race night’s schedule.
If the Rules do not say it, don’t do it.
